Dear Competitors:

I want to give you my welcome and thanks for taking part of the Operatic voices Contest, that carries my name. In my opinion, we have got the best circumstances in order to have a great contest and I do hope that the participation in the same one could be personal object of satisfaction for all you.

During my participation in 1962 in the Voci Verdiane Contest of Busseto, I felt myself the same as you now are feeling. That is to say with lots of questions about my future, a little bit nervous because of the high quality of the competitors but always willing to show to everybody that opera was an important part of my life.

After passing the different parts of the contest I arrived at the end. I won then the first prize. It was the very beginning of my career. I do understand not only the expectations and wishes you must have but also the feelings of being your voice evaluated in some days and under pressure.

Of course you have to take this contest as a very serious thing. But I would like you to know that not passing all the tests doesn't mean that your efforts, preparation or just the quality of your voice are not the right ones. There are many factors, which are taking part in this competition, and a coincidence of all of them is not always possible.

We would like you to feel yourself as comfortable as possible during our competition. We will be there for you and do our best so that you can feel focused on the test.

Finally my best wishes for the taking part of the competition and that this experience will be enriching for you. I look forward to greeting you personally very soon.
